Sam Altman's OpenAI announced on Wednesday that it plans to buy a hardware start-up called io from Jony Ive, Apple's former design boss.
Ive and his team began working with Altman and OpenAI two years ago, according to the press release, before founding the startup one year later.
Now, io will merge with OpenAI to "work more intimately with the research, engineering, and product teams in San Francisco," according to a press release.
Ive is the designer responsible for some of Apple's iconic products, and left the company in 2019.
